Missing It All
I heard one time of a little boy who had always wanted to go to a circus. He lived in a small, out-of-the-way town and things like concerts and circuses did not often come their way. But one day he saw a poster advertising that the circus was coming to their town for one day only, the very next Saturday!
The little boy ran home and asked his dad if he could go to the circus on Saturday. His father sensed that this was really exciting to the little boy, so he told him that if he had all of his chores done, he could go and he would give him the money that was needed. Full of anticipation, the little boy got all of his chores done early and on Saturday and Dad gave him a whole dollar bill. The boy had never had so much money in his pocket!
As the boy ran into town, he saw a big crowd lining the street. He wormed his way up front and watched as a big brass band marched by blowing their horn to the beat of the drums. Then came the caged animals: lions and tigers and leopards. And then came the midget clowns doing their acrobatics and twirling rings. Of course, there were the elephants and the pretty girls riding on top. And then, at the end, came a sad looking clown with his big floppy shoes and painted frown. The boy reached into his pocket and handed the dollar to the clown and then ran for home. What had happened? The boy thought he had seen the circus when he had only seen the parade!
A lot of Christians are like that. While God has so much more for them, they settle for mediocrity. They never see their prayers answered, they never see their loved ones and friends coming to know Jesus Christ as Savior. They never experience God's blessings on their life. Yet Jesus promised to give us "life, and that more abundant". Do you want that kind of life? Then aim higher! Do not set your sights low. Stop being so easily satisfied. Surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ. Then ask the Holy Spirit to take control and work through you. Put the Lord first in your life. You ain't seen nothin' yet!
